Voting Age

I strongly believe that the voting age should never be raised to any age over 18. Although many who are around the age of 18 aren't some of our most mature citizens and many make decisions based off of their peers or the influences in the media, other factors outweigh this belief that they are not ready for the responsibility. First of all no citizen should not be allowed to die for their country, but not be eligible to vote. Also many young people these days, since the 2008 presidential election, have been more interested in politics and raising the voting age would effect interest in politics in our youth. In many aspects decisions are being made about our future and our youth should be able to be apart of those decisions.

  1. I agree, especially with what you said about how it would not be okay if a citizen could die for his/her country and not be able to vote. However, younger voters take advantage of the right to voice their opinions and I think it is important for voting to be greatly encouraged, especially to those who are 18.

  2. I agree with your statement about a citizen being able to die but not vote because it is highly insulting to say that fighting for your country is a lesser privilege than voting. To raise the age would be absolutely discouraging because for many it would delay the process of forming a political opinion.

  3. I agree with your view on this subject. You have a strong point that people who are eligible to fight in the military should be able to vote as well. Also, I believe that the argument that 18-year-olds may be too immature to vote is not necessarily a strong one. I doubt that an immature 18 year-old would take the time to register to vote as well as show up on election day just to vote for something they didn't have an opinion about.

  4. I dont think that raising the voting age would affect interest in politcs because a very small percentage of the youth actually does vote. Also, the 2008 election was a big turn out for young voters but how many yound voters actually took the time to know what they are voting for? I think that most of them just voted without knowing anything about the candidates.

  5. I agree very passionately with what you said about if a person is able to fight for our country they should also be able to vote. I also think you brought up a very interesting point of how in the past election there were larger numbers of younger voters out there. I believe that simply because younger voters weren't as active in the past doesn't mean that younger voters won't participate more in the future.

  6. i agree too. i thinkt that since 18 is thought of to be the age where you become an adult, and are able to fight for our country... voting is a privelege that should not be taken away.

  7. I agree that it is important that the voting age should not be raised. I also agree that not all 18 year old are mature enough to make these decisions but the majority are and no one should be able to defend our country without having their voice heard.
